Norman, OK – In a continued effort to bring conservative, common sense values to Washington D.C., Congressman Tom Cole today announced his bid to seek re-election as the Representative of Oklahoma's Fourth Congressional District.
"This election is perhaps the most important election we will face in a generation. The course of direction for American domestic, foreign and monetary policy is at stake. With numerous new government mandates being passed down from Washington, increased threats from enemies old and new and out of control spending we are at a fundamental crossroads. Will America become a nation that depends on government or one that continues to rely upon individual responsibility and ingenuity? I am a strong advocate for the latter, but we have elections so voters can decide."
"To me, it is clear the President's attempts to meet our challenge have failed. His 787 billion dollar stimulus has failed to bring unemployment numbers below his promised 8%. The national debt has eclipsed 1.5 trillion dollars four short years after the president promised to cut it in half. And while the President is quick to take credit for increased oil and gas production, he has failed to mention his administration's policies have decreased energy production on federal lands and offshore. Coupled with his failure to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, we risk further dependency on foreign energy and see the repercussions every day when we fill the tank. I've been proud to work side by side with leaders like Paul Ryan on the House Budget Committee to craft real solutions to our nation's problems. Those solutions protect and strengthen our senior programs, continue to provide for the education of future generations and ensure that our brave men and women in uniform have the resources on and off the field of battle in the years ahead."
"I do not take the privilege to hold this office for granted. During my recent term in Congress I have worked tirelessly to uphold the Constitution, restrict further growth of government, keep taxes low, protect our most vulnerable citizens and maintain a strong national defense. If I am given the opportunity to serve again these issues will remain a major focus of my work in the House of Representatives."
"If I am fortunate enough to be elected this November I will continue to represent the conservative ideals and principles held by the citizens of Oklahoma and the people of the Fourth District to the very best of my ability."
